We Chat is the main method of communication in China. Generally, in China, phone numbers are considered private and people generally exchange we chat IDs to communicate with each other. The features are almost endless. Ask your family to download We chat before you leave for China and you can voice/video call for free wherever you have WIFI. You can top up your mobile account, pay for merchandise, share location, and much more.
Wai Mai
Wai Mai is a food ordering app. Although it’s in Chinese, just ask a local friend to set up the payment function and your address for work and home. Once you’re set up, just use the photos to order food and within 30 minutes, your meal will arrive at your door. You can order almost anything from Mc Donald’s to your favorite Chinese takeaway.
Baidu Fanyi
Baidu Fanyi is a translator app developed by the search engine company called Baidu. Fanyi means to translate. With this app, not only you can type English to find the meaning of a phrase in Chinese if you need to translate Chinese and do not know how to type it, just take a photo and this translating app will use the character recognition to translate it for you.
Mo Bike
In China, there is a great app called Mo Bike. Ever felt so lazy that you didn’t want to walk from the metro stop to your house/work? Well, those days are over. Just look for the nearest Mo Bike, use the app to scan the bike, and ride it to your destination, then lock the bike. Two payment options for this app. Either pay 1RMB per 30 minutes of usage OR pay a membership fee of 5RMB for every 3 months for 120 minutes of ride time for free. With Mo Bike, no more need of owning your own bike, let alone worry about losing it!
Didi
Didi is the main ride-sharing app used in China. They even developed an English version of the app, with all the major Points of Interest database as well. Need to go somewhere but can’t hassle to find a cab? With Didi, it will locate your pickup location based on GPS, type in your destination address, and the driver will pick you up based on your location. No Chinese needed!
C Trip
You didn’t come to teach English and work 7 days a week right? I didn’t think so. I’m pretty sure you came to China to do some traveling. C Trip is a great app to have to purchase your domestic flights, reserve hotels, and much more. What’s even great about using this app in China is that once you book your vacation, you can pay with your We Chat account.
