Different Work Schedules
Most people who come to teach in Asia have a few options with their work schedules.
One option is to work afternoons and evenings at training centers, or language schools. These schools cater to students ranging from 3-year-old students to adults. Work hours at such schools start around 2 PM and end around 8 PM. Usually, you will work weekends and 3 weekdays and have two consecutive weekdays off.
This kind of schedule allows for a time during the mornings and late nights to spend your time either exploring the city or adventuring the nightlife. This type of schedule is perfect for night owls and people who like a later start.
Another option is working at a kindergarten or a public/private school Here, you will enjoy a normal Monday to Friday workday from 8 AM to 4 PM. This schedule allows for guaranteed weekends off and you will have the early evening for yourself.
Whichever one you choose, having a social life won’t be a problem as there will be some kind of foreign people social gathering any day of the week.
Holiday Planning
Another factor to consider in deciding what type of work schedule is right for you is the type of holidays you are looking forward to. Obviously, no matter what type of job you pick, everyone in China will get about 7 days off during the October mid-autumn festival and another 7 days off during the Chinese New Years in February.
However, if you work at a training center, you will get 5-10 days annual leave for you to use at your discretion. So if you are looking for bargain vacation opportunities while others are working, you have that flexibility. If you are the type of person to go on holidays during the winter and summer holidays, the traditional school schedule might be a better fit for you.
