You can obtain a background check from a local, state or national(FBI) organization. Generally, the local police station is the fastest, while the state police may take a couple weeks. If you are overseas or your employer requires it, you can get an FBI background check. Here is the link to more info about FBI Background Check. If you reside overseas or need to expedite your FBI background check, we suggest to use a Channeler.
To apply for a background check through the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, go to www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/steps-obtain-certified-criminal-record-or-vulnerable-sector-vs-check. You do not need the national level check for teaching in China. Make sure that your criminal record check is dated within 6 months from the time you apply for your work visa. You can also apply whether you are residing in Canada or overseas.

Irish people must submit a Police Certificate from the Garda. CRCs must have an issue date that is within 6 months of the applicant’s visa application date. Police Certificates usually take 30 days to process, so it is very important to order their checks when your recruiter tells you to. Once all of your documents are authenticated by the Chinese Consulate/Embassy, send scans of these documents to your employer. They will apply for your work permit which usually takes 14 business days. It’s important to tell your employer which Chinese consulate you will apply for your work visa. ONCE YOU YOUR EMPLOYER STARTS THE INVITATION LETTER, you cannot change the Chinese Consulate location.
Once your visa letter is issued, your employer will mail you your invitation letter along with supporting documents. Take those documents, with your visa application, passport, and passport photo to the Chinese Consulate or mail them to your visa agent.
