What is the salary for an Adult Teaching Job in China?

Teaching Adults in China salary can vary based on the company you go with and the city you are placed in. In a Tier 1 City, your salary can range between 14,000 RMB to 16,000 RMB depending on the hours you teach per week. The first company will require you to teach up to 25 hours per week and the second company will require you to teach 30 hours per week. Both jobs have office hours and you will have a 40 hour work week. If you choose to Teach Adults in Beijing, your salary can be as high as 20,000 RMB per month in order to account for the higher cost of living.

Do I have to make my own lesson plans and power point materials?

One of the biggest benefits of teaching adults in China is that all the lesson plans and power point materials are pre-made! All you need to do is familiarize yourself with the teaching methodology and deliver the lesson. In China, we advise to reduce teacher talk time and maximize student talk time. Of course you will have some flexibility to modify the lesson based on student needs, but initially, we recommend learning the company’s method of teaching. The adult students in China have a systemized online study system and they will generally self-study in between the lessons with the teacher.

Am I allowed to meet my students outside the training center?

Yes, you are allowed to develop a friendship with your students and meet up outside the training centers. As long as you do not do anything that will breach your employment contract, for example, build a private tutoring relationship for financial gain, or engage in a sexual or love relationship with the student. However, feel free to go have a beer or coffee with your students in your free time. If you go above and beyond to help your adult students learn English, they will be forever indebted to you and you will gain a lifelong friend in the middle kingdom.

How can I develop my career at an Adult Language Training Center in China?

Are you determined to have a fruitful long-term career teaching Adults in China? If you have your mind set on getting a promotion to a teacher supervisor or a teacher trainer, it’s not that difficult. Many English teachers who travel abroad are usually looking for a long-term holiday while getting a good salary teaching English. What we recommend in the first 3 to 6 months is to quickly familiarize yourself with the curriculum and the company’s teaching methodology. Within 6 months, you will realize that a new batch of teachers has arrived at your school, and this is a great chance for you to demonstrate your leadership skills by mentoring the new teachers. This will be quickly noticed by your supervisors and sooner than you think, you will be asked if you want to know what it takes to get a promotion. After you develop mentorship skills, the company will also look at your ability to manage mini projects in order to improve the school’s environment.
